The 3yo EXTREMELY ZAIN is entered in the Group 1 Sussex Stakes and is taken to maintain his unbeaten record on this handicap debut. The step back up to 7f could suit the lightly raced 4yo Recency Bias and he may be the chief threat ahead of Daydreama, who likes it here. Yanifer has a good record in the race and Aalto is worth a second look with Ryan Moore booked, while Mirabeau and Akkadian Thunder arrive on the back of positive performances.[Ben Hutton] Show less
Spotlight: Won by 7l at Newcastle (6f, AW) last December on sole 2yo start and made it 2-2 with narrow win in Newbury novice (7f, good) last month; he didn't have an ideal passage last time and still looked inexperienced, and this Sussex Stakes entry could prove to be a lot better than his opening mark.
Spotlight: His peak RPRs have come in the last two runnings of the Bunbury Cup at Newmarket in July (win/close second); however, he was an encouraging ninth of 28 on reappearance in the Victoria Cup at Ascot (7f, good) and positives today are his reduced mark and the booking of Ryan Moore.
Spotlight: There's a suspicion he might ideally need slow ground to produce his best form at 7f, especially here, but he began this season in good form (1m/7.5f, good to soft/good) and there was some mitigation when down the field at Newbury on penultimate start (1m, good; denied clear run); went close over C&D (good) on Friday; not ruled out.
Spotlight: Snapped a losing sequence in big field at Newbury (6f, good) in April and good second there (6f, good) since; won over C&D in 2024 2yo campaign and he should be fine back up to 7f; bang in form and he's one to consider.
Spotlight: His losing sequence is up to 13 but he's 4lb lower than when runner-up at Royal Ascot last June and was denied a clear run when third at Doncaster (7f, good to firm) last Saturday; bang there if getting the breaks.
Spotlight: Won Newcastle novice (7f, AW) in March on third start and runner-up in handicaps on last two outings, beaten a neck at Newcastle (7f, AW) then keeping on well behind a progressive winner at Carlisle (6f, good to firm); the return to 7f may well be a positive and he's on the shortlist.
Spotlight: 3yo who has a very mixed record across his ten starts and was well beaten at Carlisle a fortnight ago; however, he's run well over C&D on all three previous visits to York, finishing second of 14 earlier last month; chance.
Spotlight: Won at Thirsk (7f, good) last month on third stable start and close second at Chester (7f, good) subsequently; won here in September 2024 on sole previous course visit and this in-form 4yo could again be thereabouts.
Spotlight: Two wins for Dermot Weld last summer and went close at Chester (7f, good) last month, when racing prominently on his second stable start; disappointing at Thirsk ten days later but that may have come too soon; not written off.
Spotlight: Runner-up in the spring on first two starts for this yard (7f, good) and each-way claims on that form; however, two lesser runs have followed and he's 0-18 since winning in June 2023 on his second outing.
Spotlight: Hints of promise when slowly away on last two starts, and he might not be a forlorn hope each-way if breaking on terms; however, he's 0-11 since winning on debut here in May 2024 and others are less risky.
Spotlight: 0-15 since debut win in May 2024 but often ran well off marks in the 90s in some quality handicaps last season, including over C&D; respectable sixth of 14 on recent reappearance at Thirsk and could build on that run today.
Spotlight: This is his first run since last October but he is capable of running well after an absence and he's been runner-up in the last two editions of this race (good to soft/good to firm); interesting candidate on return to action.
Spotlight: Returned to form for a neck win at 12-1 at Beverley (7.4f, good to firm) a fortnight ago; back up in grade today but he's just 1lb higher and remains well treated on last season's best efforts; could go well once more.
Spotlight: He won two 7f handicaps last season and took a step back in the right direction with close sixth of 12 at Haydock in April; however, well beaten at Newmarket since and others arrive with less to prove.
Spotlight: 9yo who has won 13 times, the latest off today's mark at Musselburgh last November; however, he's failed to shine on his three outings this season.
Spotlight: He's on a competitive mark on his best form for Andrew Balding, which includes a good third of 22 over C&D (good) last May; market check advised on first run since last July, having been gelded and changed hands for 62,000gns in the interim, but he needs to be at the very top of his game.
Spotlight: Won at Musselburgh (7f, good) in April, making it 2-3 at the Edinburgh venue, and he's just 2lb higher today; can't be totally dismissed but this 9yo is inconsistent and was soundly beaten at Thirsk (7f, good) last time.
Spotlight: Ex-Joseph O'Brien; he's dropping down the weights and is one to watch in the betting but he's failed to beat a rival at Chester on his first two starts for this yard and a major turnaround is necessary.
